Your swing may not be the problem. Your body might be.

If golf has been hurting, you’ve probably already tried:

  • Ibuprofen before your round

  • A new driver or a few more lessons

  • Stretching on the first tee

  • Cutting back to nine holes, or skipping the range

Lessons and new clubs can absolutely help. But if your body can’t get into the positions your swing needs, no equipment or coaching will fully fix it, and it will keep costing you strokes and comfort.

What we see in golfers

  • Low back pain during or after a round (often called golfer’s back)

  • Hip pain or stiffness that limits your turn

  • Shoulder pain at the top of the backswing or through impact

  • Elbow pain on the inside or outside of the elbow (golfer’s or tennis elbow)

  • Wrist pain at impact, especially off firm turf

  • Fatigue and lost balance late in a round

Most golfers don’t have one big injury. They have small physical limits that add up over thousands of swings.

Why golf pain lingers

Your swing depends on the right parts of your body moving at the right time. We commonly see:

  • Restricted hip turn, which forces your low back to twist more than it should

  • A stiff upper back (thoracic spine) that pushes rotation into the low back

  • Tight hamstrings that cap your backswing

  • Shoulder mobility or stability limits that show up at the top or through impact

  • Balance and posture that fade as you get tired on the back nine

That’s why rest and ibuprofen only go so far. They calm the pain down, but they don’t change how your body handles your swing.

The TPI golf screen

Dr. Luke Barhorst is TPI certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), so your golf screen and plan are built by a clinician trained specifically in the golf swing. We use a TPI screen, a 15-point physical assessment of your mobility, stability, balance, and movement patterns. It shows what’s physically limiting or breaking down your swing: not your technique, your body.

It was developed by studying thousands of golfers, from weekend players to Tour pros. Areas we look at include:

  • Hip and pelvis rotation: a common cause of lost distance and low back compensation

  • Thoracic spine mobility: a stiff upper back forces your low back to over-rotate

  • Shoulder stability: limits show up as pain at the top or through impact

  • Balance and posture: poor dynamic balance limits power and consistency

Instead of guessing with a stretch you saw online or a swing tip from a buddy, you get a clear answer about what your body needs.

How we help

We don’t guess…we assess. Your first visit is a full hour, 1-on-1 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. From there, your plan follows our three steps:

FEEL BETTER: Calm it down. Hands-on treatment and smart changes to how much you play and practice, so pain settles while you stay on the course.

MOVE BETTER: Rebuild it. We use your screen results to build hip, upper back, and shoulder mobility, core control, and rotational strength so your body can make the swing you want.

PERFORM BETTER: Keep it. We progress you back to full rounds, range sessions, and more speed, with a plan to keep you healthy all season.

You’ll leave your first visit knowing what’s going on, what to do next, what to modify for now, and roughly how long it should take.
